Finally took my mom up on a trip to the tailors. I’ve avoided this trip for the past two weeks…once excuse after another. Couldn’t say for sure – the there was some trepidation on my part stemming from the natural tension between me choosing a pattern and what came out the other end of my mom’s sewing machine.
Now, please don’t get me wrong. This isn’t a comment on my mother’s unassailable sewing skills, but rather a rather damning condemnation of my skills as a designer…or something like that. I’ve not much talent for seeing a piece of cloth and knowing what it should be made into.
Thus, it was with much fear and trepidation that I entered Nickermann’s Tailor shop at the Landmark Hotel…only to find that the guidebook had been wrong – the shop didn’t open until Noon and it was just 10:30 a.m. The perfect excuse, but the look on my mom’s face when I turned up without a custom fit suit – kept me wandering around the hotel for another hour.
On the up-side, I found a little book shop where I purchased a couple of books. My favorite is the “then and now” of Bangkok. I am such a sucker for the comparison of historical locations with present day! 🙂
Then back to the shop where I perused catalogs of haute couture. Found two different suit patterns I loved as well as slacks and a blouse pattern. The tailor sketched another shirt pattern (for the white) as well as the skirt pattern…so I went for it!
I found two incredible Merino wool fabrics – one is in a green with dark (nearly black, photo left) undertones the other is black. The two skirt fabrics are the black/white and the white with stripes in the photo above. that were A quick call to mom kept me in the store and ordering both suits.
So, now I wait. I go in for my second fitting on Tuesday…may pick up the final product on Wednesday. Unreal!
While it wasn’t free – it was a great price for a custom fit suit. ….keep your fingers crossed with me!
