The trip from Pader back to Kampala was exhausting – particularly as I was coming down with some chest/nasal crud the dust and other pollutants were unbearable! (On the upside…my abs got one hell of a good workout!)Once I got to Kampala I discovered that my new travel agent handed me off to her intern/assistant who hadn’t booked my ticket from Kampala to Bangkok. I scrambled and finally found a flight out on Monday rather than Sunday evening. But, no complaints as I was not feeling well anyway.
Made it to the airport 2hrs ahead of my flight only to discover that Emirates Airlines in Entebbe doesn’t take credit cards. I pulled what cash I could (as I wasn’t carrying $1,000 cash) and the agent was able to get his friend in Duty Free to run my credit card for $330 (turned out to be $429) and I made the first leg of my flight. The agent had called ahead to Dubai and assured me that I would only have to pay the remaining $200. Ya, too good to be true. In Dubai I was hit with an $800 bill for the continuing flight…argued him down to $400 and finally arrived in Bangkok…
…but wait, there’s more!
…only to discover that I was over my cash withdrawal limit and was unable to take any cash out. By some miracle or another my phone actually worked in Bangkok…but only to numbers in Thailand – so I called Diane who met me at the hotel with cab fare and cash. Phew
…Spent the morning in meetings and lost in a taxi…actually it was the taxi driver who was lost! 🙁 So I missed the first Logistics Cluster meeting across town. Still have no idea why I’m here. From what I can tell the DHL shipment from the States hasn’t left yet…have no confirmation of that. So until I know what is going on – I’m off to get a massage. Well, not really, but likely I will do that tomorrow!
Wish I could be a little more upbeat, but I’m sick and tired so off to bed for me.
