Chandler learning to drive the Kubota!
Leave it to Mom & Dad to make lemons out of lemonade…they ripped out the lawn and put in a dry creek bed and manicured landscape.
What, might you ask, does this have to do with rocks?!?
Well, the lovely new dry creek bed needed a border…and yes, it needed river rocks. Mom & Dad priced them at a local nursery / landscaping shop and come to find out the rocks cost something like $5 each. They needed about 200 of them to completely their border – and no way were they paying $2,000 to get the job done!
Uncle to the Rescue
One advantage of living in the town where you grew up as a child and marrying your high school sweetheart is that you know everyone in town! Or you’re related to them!! Turns out Uncle Terry’ s wife’s nephew owns a cattle farm in the next town over….and, it’s on the river, which is – you guessed it – brimming with river rock!

Uncle Terry & Mom tossing carefully selected river rock into back of the truck.
All of this to say that we spent a couple of hours at the river and collected a truckload of river rock all for the price of a gallon of diesel ($4) and a little manual labor ($0)!
….and the new landscaping is beautiful!
